The College Credit Plus meeting scheduled for tonight (February 6th) at Galion High School has been postponed. A rescheduled date is in the works. Thank you for your patience!
Attention Class of 2026! The ACT Test will be administered at Galion High School on February 25. Registration for this test will occur on February 18, for all juniors who have not opted out. Students who opt out must return the form with parent signatures by February 14. If you have questions about the ACT, please contact Christy Zender, School Counselor.
For registration on February 18, students should arrive by 7:25 and come prepared with a fully charged school-issued iPad or Chromebook. Transportation to Pioneer will be provided after registration.

Here is the message you’ve been waiting for. As you know tomorrow is a scheduled holiday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King so there is no school. In addition, we will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 due to the expected extreme temperatures. We will update you regarding Wednesday as early as we can.

We deeply appreciate the understanding and patience of our families, staff, and community as we navigate through the winter months. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priorities. Deciding to close schools or implement a two-hour delay is never taken lightly, and it is not an exact science. We recognize that these decisions have significant implications for our entire community.
Several factors must be considered when making a delay or closing decision. Our operations and transportation teams closely monitor weather reports, sheriff’s office advisories, and sometimes the decisions of other area districts. Beginning at 4:00 a.m., our operations team physically drives through parts of the city to assess road conditions firsthand, and we attempt to make a firm decision by 5:45.
Another critical factor is the timing of inclement weather. The superintendent and operations team communicated this morning at 5:30 a.m. and the conditions appeared manageable. We did not experience snow drifts or ice that more rural districts faced. Our buses begin their routes at 6:00 a.m. However, the sheriff’s office issued an advisory at 7:44 a.m., after buses were already on the road. Attempting to delay or cancel school once students and staff are en route poses a greater safety concern.
Safety remains our guiding principle, and we also consider the broader impact of school closures on our community. For many students, school is a place for learning and a source of nutrition, providing both breakfast and lunch. When schools close, some children lose access to these essential meals, a reality that heavily influences our decision-making process.
As we move through the Ohio winter season, it is vital that all students are dressed for the weather. If students need outerwear or other clothing, please contact your school’s office, as some items are on hand. A decision about Tuesday’s subzero temperatures will be made over the weekend and communicated as early as possible.

The Galion City School District in partnership with the ROAR program, are excited to announce the first Winter Wellness Fair, Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 4PM-6PM at the Middle School. There will be games for the whole family, inflatables, food. Community Partners will share information about their upcoming programs. Let's kick the winter blues and get out of the house, meet some friends, and see some of the great things that are coming up in Galion and the surrounding area. This event is open to the public and completely free!
