Good afternoon, Tiger families. We hope you all had a great Spring Break and are ready to come back tomorrow. We want to remind everyone of the changes to the afternoon dismissal plan for our Middle School and High School. The students will be dismissed from the main doors and will load buses in front of the buildings. There are no changes to student parking assignments. Those who come to pick up students will need to park in either the far east or far west ends of the parking lot and wait for students to come to them.
Pylons, staff members, and our SRO will be out to help direct traffic while we adjust to the new traffic pattern. This plan will be re-evaluated as we work toward the best plan to get students home. We ask for your patience and courtesy during this transition and remind you that all cars must yield to all buses as they exit our campus. See you tomorrow!
Test Tip #5 : Come Prepared!
Be sure to bring your fully charged iPad and your fully charged positive attitude. We believe in each one of our students and know they will be prepared.
Lost charger? No problem. Students can purchase a replacement charger for $20, or they can leave their iPad in one of our charging stations overnight to ensure they are prepared for test day.
Test Tip #4: The Power of a Positive Mindset on Test Day!
Believe. Achieve. Succeed. Your mindset matters! According to Harvard’s Seven Best Strategies for Test Prep:
“Don’t underestimate the importance of confidence and a positive mindset in test preparation. Positive rituals can help combat negative thinking, test anxiety, and lack of focus that can easily undermine your success on test day. Plan some extra time to go for a short walk or listen to your favorite music. Engage in simple breathing exercises. Visualize yourself succeeding on the test. Your rituals can be totally unique to you. The important thing is developing a calming habit that will boost your confidence, attitude, and concentration when the test begins.”
Find a ritual that works for you, and show up for your test knowing you are ready to succeed!

Great Test Tip #3: Be Present and On Time
Missing a test day can cause extra stress and missed opportunities. Arriving late on test days can also cause students to have to test on another day. Here’s why showing up on time on test days is so important:
Rushing or rescheduling creates unnecessary anxiety.
Taking the test with your classmates helps you stay focused, confident, and in the right mindset.
Rescheduling means added pressure and missing new lessons.
Plan for Success:
Set multiple alarms and prepare your materials the night before.
Allow extra travel time if you are walking or driving.
Avoid scheduling appointments on test days.
If you're feeling under the weather, communicate with your teacher early.
Great Test Tip #2 Power of a Healthy Breakfast
Eating a nutritious breakfast before a test can boost focus, memory, and problem-solving skills. Here’s why breakfast matters:
Improves Concentration – A well-fed brain stays alert and engaged.
Boosts Memory – Nutrients like protein and healthy fats enhance recall.
Sustains Energy – Balanced meals prevent mid-test crashes.
Reduces Stress – A satisfied stomach helps ease test anxiety.
Best Breakfast Choices:
Whole grains (oatmeal, whole wheat toast)
Protein (eggs, yogurt, nuts)
Healthy fats (avocado, peanut butter)
Fruits & veggies (bananas, berries, spinach)

Next month, we begin our end-of-the-year state testing. This week we will share some great tips to help our students. Our first tip is "Get Enough Sleep!"
Are your students getting the right amount of sleep? Sleep is essential for students to perform their best academically and maintain overall well-being.
Here’s how much sleep is recommended by age group according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine:
Children (6-12 years old) – 9-12 hours per night.
Adolescents (13-17 years old) – 8-10 hours per night.
Adults (18+ years old) – 7-9 hours per night.
Lack of sleep can lead to difficulty concentrating, lower test scores, and increased stress. Encourage healthy sleep habits by setting consistent bedtimes, limiting screen time before bed, and creating a relaxing bedtime routine!

Spring Break begins Monday, March 24. When we return to school on March 31, we will pilot a new dismissal plan for Middle and High School students. Buses will be lined up in front of the buildings rather than in the back. Our goal is to establish a more efficient way to get buses off campus and get students home faster. We will continue to evaluate our plan through the remainder of this school year.
Bus riders from both buildings will be released from their main doors.
High School students who drive to school will keep their assigned parking spots.
Middle School students who are walkers and pick-ups will be released from the Middle School Athletic Doors.
Parents/guardians who are picking up students should park in the designated parking lots and wait for students to come to them. For the High School, the pickup lot is on the far east end of the lot. The Middle School pick-up lot is on the west end of the lot where staff typically park. As an option, MS School staff can park in the adjacent parking lot on the west side of the Middle School.

Congratulations to our outstanding Tigers! Three Galion High School students were selected to participate in the District 2 Honors Festival for Choir and Band. Gabrielle, Logan, and Cameron traveled to Port Clinton in February to participate in the two-day event. Both Gabrielle and Logan were selected as soloists in the 100-voice choir. They are both active Galion High School Symphonic and Show Choir members.
Cameron, our third outstanding Tiger, was selected to play with the Honors Band and earned first chair. In addition, she was the only student in District 2, comprised of eight counties, to make the Ohio Music Education Association All State Band.
To all three students: Your commitment to excellence in music showcases your incredible skills and brings pride to our school and community. We look forward to your continuing to inspire others with your passion and artistry—these achievements are well deserved! Go Tigers!
Best of Luck to Our State-Bound Wrestlers! Grady, Carter, and Ryder made the traditional walk through the halls of Galion High School in true Tiger style this morning! Students and staff cheered them on with a clap-out as the band played in celebration. In keeping with tradition, these athletes were treated to a police and fire escort off campus to send them on their way. We are so proud of these young men and their successful season thus far.

Reminder that this Friday, March 7, ends the third grading period, and it will be a 2-hour early dismissal. Let’s finish strong, Tigers!
The Tiger trait for March is Balanced. Our hope and goal for balance Tigers is that they make a conscious effort to prioritize and create equilibrium in personal, academic, and emotional demands. These efforts guide them to make healthy choices when dividing their time between academic responsibilities, friends, and family.
Maintaining balance through their ability to organize and self-regulate in daily life develops skills to confront feelings of overwhelmedness and stress as adults.
Our team of bus drivers thank you for doing your part in keeping us all safe while we transport our students to and from school. Complying with the RED STOP sign during loading and unloading, giving us room to make wide turns, and watching your speed around bus stops are all ways you can help us be safe. We appreciate your willingness to follow these guidelines.
The ACT Test is on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, for all Galion Juniors who have not opted out. Students should arrive at the high school at 7:25. Bring a student ID or driver's license. Students are responsible for their own transportation if they choose to leave after the test. Students who have opted out are expected to follow their regular schedule for the day.
Our winter wellness fair is underway. Come join us at the Middle School until 6:00. We have great swag for you!
The Galion City School District will host parent/teacher conferences in each building on Wednesday, Feb. 19th. Don't forget to stop in the Middle School to check out the Winter Wellness Resource Fair from 4:00-6:00. There will be fun, food, information, and prizes! We can't wait to see you there!
