This week in athletics at Galion
Senior cross-country runner, Braxton Tate, qualified for the 3rd year in a row to go to the State meet by placing 3rd overall at the Regional meet over the weekend at Hedges Boyer Park in Tiffin, with a PR time of 15:23.60. Braxton holds the third fastest time in the state for District II going into the state meet on Saturday, November 2 at National Trail Raceway in Hebron at 2:15pm. He will be recognized in a “Walk of Fame” that will be held in the High School on Wednesday at 1:35pm.
The girls’ cross-country team finished their season on Saturday at the regional meet, placing 9th overall, with the top 6 teams moving on to the State meet. Five of the girls who made it to the regional meet ran new personal records, with 4 runners finishing in under 21 minutes. This is the girls’ second year at the regional meet.
The girls’ volleyball team will play Ottawa-Glandorf High School in the regional semi-final game at Lake High School in Millbury this Thursday at 7pm. Pre-sale tickets are still available to purchase by cash only in the High School Athletic Office for $6 Wednesday from 3-5pm. Day of game tickets are $8. Students can purchase tickets Wednesday from 10:45-noon, and 3-5pm. Should the girls win on Thursday night, they will play Saturday at 2pm.
This Friday at 7pm, the football team will take on Pleasant High School, at Pleasant. A win will guarantee the MOAC championship and will secure a spot in the playoffs.
The girl’s tennis team held their banquet on Sunday night at the Brown Derby Roadhouse. The girls finished the season with 11 team wins and 7 losses. Katie Baughn and Elli Chandler finished with Honorable Mention All-District Honors and First Team All MOAC. Katherine Talbott earned Honorable Mention All MOAC and finished the season and her career with 91 wins and 16 losses, which is the second most wins in Girls Tennis at Galion High School. Katie Baughn, Elli Chandler, Orchid Parsons, and Katherine Talbott all received their four-year letter award, and Anna Court, Emma Maguire, Lydia McCabe, and Taylor Henry received their first-year letter award. Katherine Talbott, Elli Chandler, and Katie Baughn were selected as All-County All-Stars, and head coach, Terry Gribble, received All-County All-Star Coach of the Year. G-Awards were given out, and Katherine Talbott received the Leadership award, Katie Baughn received the Sportsmanship award, Anna Court received the Most Improved award, Elli Chandler won the award for most wins, and Orchid Parsons won the Coaches’ award.
